Impact Details

In collaboration with the Global Air Drone Academy, SheFlies contributed to a transformative STEM and drone technology workshop that trained 500 students across Lagos State. This initiative, supported by the Lagos State Government, introduced students to drone technology, solar panel assembly, weather balloon tech, AI, coding, and cell phone repair, fostering hands-on engagement in emerging technologies.

On October 20, 2021, SheFlies, represented by Damilola Olufemi, led the introductory sessions on drone technology, explaining its evolution, applications in remote sensing and GIS, and its significance as an unmanned aerial vehicle. This session provided students with foundational knowledge, helping them understand the real-world applications of drones in environmental monitoring, disaster response, and emerging tech industries.

This initiative aligns with SheFlies’ mission to increase gender inclusion in STEM and drone technology. It follows other impactful collaborations, including the first-ever drone soccer competition in Africa (January 2022), hosted by the U.S. Consulate, the Global Air Drone Academy, and the Lagos State Ministry of Education. This event saw eight girl-led teams competing, demonstrating how STEM education can drive inclusive economic opportunities.

By actively engaging in such initiatives, SheFlies continues to inspire young minds, particularly girls, to explore STEM careers, leveraging innovative educational experiences to build a more diverse and skilled future workforce in Nigeria and beyond.
